The Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) was tasked to provide generic guidelines for the life extension of fossil fuel plant electrical equipment and systems as an alternative to constructing new plants. They sponsored an in-depth research project and contracted with RTI to develop and produce the guidelines document.
RTI led a nationally recognized team of twenty-four technical experts from the utility, manufacturing, and engineering communities. Electrical equipment conditions in fossil fuel plants were evaluated. Recommendations were made on how to implement a life extension program as an alternative to new construction and equipment purchases; and, technical assessment guidelines and checklists for review of existing life extension programs were developed.
RTI authored the final document findings in a handbook published by EPRI, which was the first of its kind for the utility industry.
