As a young engineer he was fortunate to be given the responsibility to establish and oversee a new shipyard weight control process for the hull shortening of an inactive guided missile cruiser and the de-activations of Los Angeles class submarines. Both of these projects involved the integration of multiple engineering and trade disciplines along with close coordination with senior project managers. From PSNS he gained valuable skills and knowledge of the requirements to plan and execute large scale maintenance availabilities, including budgetary estimation and monitoring methods. Mr. Shannon was able to lead diverse groups of professionals towards establishing and achieving common goals.
- United States Marine Corps Artillery Officer and Foreign Advisor April 2009 – December 2013

Mr. Shannon’s decision to join the Marines was a simple one; our country was at war and he wanted to be part of it. Over the next four years he would find himself on a journey that took him from leading diverse groups of young men in a Marine artillery battery to training, mentoring, and advising Afghan National Security Forces over the course of two deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and leading a combined military-civilian team at a warfighting modeling and simulation center. From his time in the Marines he learned valuable lessons about what it takes to succeed when working with people of all different types at home and overseas and in comfortable to uncomfortable settings. Mr. Shannon also gained experience in leadership, project management, and training management, three areas which laid the foundation for him to transition into the civilian sector and thrive within his future career paths.
